Skoda 1201 Delivery Van

Here we have a very rare early Skoda delivery van, these early versions had the extra storage compartments at the bottom on each side.

This vehicle was sold new here in Finland. It was first registered on 08.02.1958, so most likely manufactured in 1957.

In 1967 it was removed from traffic use and the number plates returned to the registration office, I have a certificate to prove this. It has not been used on the road since, so nearly 60 years off the road. It was quite common back in those days for people to surrender the number plates and declare the vehicles as not being used on public roads, this way they did not have to pay any taxes. The main reason for this was that there was a fault with the vehicle that they could not afford to fix, so the vehicle went into storage until they had it fixed.

There is no real history about this vehicle, I purchased it from some brothers that inherited it from their recently deceased brother. They told me that he purchased it around 12 years ago (2012) with the intention of getting it back on the road, unfortunately he died before he was unable to do this. I have a photo of when he purchased it, and it looked to be in good condition then. You will see in that photo that the dust caps are fitted to the wheels, the previous owner has now found them since I purchased the vehicle, and he is posting them to me.

It has been repainted at some stage, but not recently. As you can see in the photos it looks very presentable, up close though there are signs of dust particles in the paint and some runs in places.

The engine sounds very good, it always starts up straight away even if it has been standing for a while.

All the dials are working, like fuel and heater gauge.

I have now had it registered again here in Finland and it has a new set of number plates. At the same time, it was inspected (MOT/TUV), which is a requirement for the reregistration. To my surprise it did not need much doing to it to get it trough the inspection, the brakes needed adjusting and some minor electrical jobs.
