Dodge Monaco 2D H/T 1965

Description

Dodge Monaco 2D H/T 1965

Sold new in Finland and been with the same family ever since, now regrettably having to be sold due to lack of storage and use.

Speedometer reading is just over 47 000 km, accurate reading is 247 000 km.

The car has been in storage for the last two years and not had a great deal of use. It is dusty in the photos and needs a wash and hoover, this will be done as soon as the weather permits.

Message from current owner

The car was purchased by my grandfather in 1965 and is one of three similar cars that were imported to Finland. After my grandfather it went to my uncle who had it for several decades. He is the owner mentioned in the article that was published in 2001 (Mobilisti nr 6/2001). The article provides some good historical information about the car, in Finnish though. Our car is the metallic green one

After my uncle passed away, I recently became the owner along with my aunt. Unfortunately, I don’t know as much as my uncle did, but to my knowledge it is in its original condition and very little has been done to it. The car has been well maintained and kept in a garage. During the last decades it has only been driven in the summer. For the past two years it has not been driven at all, because my uncle was first hospitalized and then passed away. The last inspection (MOT/TUV)) was done on April 18th, 2023.

Translated part of the article from 2001

This Monaco was ordered new to Finland through D-Autokeskus. In the 1960s, it was common for importers to “forget” to order certain equipment because they happened to be part of a specific equipment package. That is why it is also interesting to compare the equipment ordered for these examples. The green and white cars in our story were ordered by private individuals on a personal “check-the-box” basis, while the importer was responsible for the blue arsenal.

The car has been maintained with extreme care, and it doesn’t differ much from a new one. The mileage in 36 years has only been a modest 215,000 km. The individual seats still offer great travel comfort. The first hundred thousand kilometers of the Monaco were serviced by the importer, and that’s where the service book ended. In the early years, the car even had studded tires, but for the last 15 years it has been parked in the garage all winter, says the owner.

The transmission is a three-speed TorqueFlite 727 automatic, as in other examples. It was a floor-mounted automatic, instead of the button-type automatics of the previous year’s Dodge models. The factory also offered a 3- and 4-speed manual with this engine. The rear-wheel drive ratio in the green Dodge is marked 3.23:1.

Both cars were fitted with Blaupunkt radios (AM/FM) in the 60s; the factory radio was naturally only of the medium wave type. What was even better was that the radios’ front panels in both cars matched the style of the metal strip running along the dashboard perfectly. The two-speed rear window blower, specially ordered for the green Monaco, also represented the pinnacle of its time.

The steering wheel can be adjusted to seven height positions as an option. Electric seats were not ordered, after all. In the mid-sixties, the most popular equipment also included dual compressor Alpine horns. The new Monaco was exchanged for a pair of cars, which was quite incredible in Finnish conditions.

Do you have a classic car for sale?

Please let me know if you have a vehicle that you would like to sell, I could be interested in buying it.

Even if I don’t buy it, I could have a client looking for that type of vehicle and could sell it for you.
