A Remarkable Family-Owned Matching Numbers Survivor

A truly special Volkswagen Beetle 1200, built in late 1962 and first registered in early 1963.

This is a genuine, unrestored survivor that has remained in the same family from new. Originally purchased by the father, the car was later passed down to his son and has been carefully preserved throughout its life.

What makes this Beetle particularly appealing is its originality. It has never been restored and has never been welded, retaining its original character, construction and much of its original factory finish.

Matching Numbers & Originality

The car retains its original identification plate and the chassis number stamped into the body matches the identification plate: 5109325.

The engine is numbered 7218670, which falls within the contemporary November 1962 Volkswagen engine production sequence, corresponding closely with the car’s chassis production period. This provides very strong evidence that the car retains its original, period-correct engine.

Condition

The Beetle remains in remarkably original condition.

• Original factory paint over most of the body
• The fenders have been repainted at some point in the past
• Never welded
• Original interior in exceptionally good condition — almost like new
• Underbody rust protection applied at some stage
• In a few areas the underbody protection has come away, allowing some surface rust to develop

The car presents beautifully as an authentic survivor rather than a freshly restored example.

Mileage & History

The Beetle was museum registered in 2002, at which time the speedometer showed 65,534 km.

Today it reads 89,564 km, meaning that it has covered approximately 24,000 km since museum registration in 2002 — an average of roughly 1,000 km per year over the past 24 years.

This low annual usage is consistent with how the car has been kept and enjoyed.

Driving

This Beetle drives exceptionally well.

I have personally driven it to several car shows, and it has proved to be a pleasure to drive. It runs, drives and handles extremely well, and in my experience, it is one of the best-driving original Beetles I have encountered.

The car is currently road inspected (MOT/TÜV), everything works as it should, and it is ready to be enjoyed by its next owner.
