Ford Thunderbird Drag Car “Hateful Eight”

Vintage Gasser Drag Racer, 660-700 hp and torque of approx. 850 Nm.

Texas registration is available, so based on the papers it could be possible to register this for street use (but not with this engine and roll cage).

 

Engine 484 cid (8 liter):

Ford 427 side-oiler (aluminum Genesis cross bolted race block), bore 4.255″.

Scat forget (4.250″ stroker) crankshaft, Scat 6.700″ H-beams cranks, RaceTec forged pistons (CR= 12.8:1), Hi-volume oil pump and Canton racing oil pan.

Lunati solid roller custom camshaft, Comp Cams solid roller lifters, Erson 1.76:1 roller rockers.

Aluminum Trick Flow Power Port cylinder heads, Tunnel Ram intake manifold + 2 Holley 660 cfm center squirters carburetors.

Fenderwell headers exhaust manifolds.

The engine has a power of 660-700 hp and torque of approx. 850 Nm and the car accelerates in a ¼ mile in just over 10 sec. and over 200 km. to final speeds.

 

Transmission:

Straight-toothed Jerico 4-speed manual, steel clutch housing + McLeod steel flywheel and RXT Twin disk clutch.

 

Body:

The car has had all rust damage repaired, including renewed floors, lower edges of doors, skirt panels and rear wheel arches.

Race seats, Simpsons 5-point seat belts and roll bars/cage (rated 8.5 sec).

Fiberglass roof and fiberglass flip-up front, side windows are polycarbonate.

Body is painted with a black base color, which is varnished with House of Colors Apricot Metal Flake (orange/gold).

Texts are hand-painted and gold leaf has also been used in the letters.

 

Frame:

The original frame has been sandblasted, repaired/reinforced and powder coated.

The front frame has been modified so that the original independent suspension with brakes has been removed and replaced with a “gasser” tubular axle with leaf springs and small disc brakes (with booster and electric vacuum pump).

 

Axle and tires/rims:

Rear axle is Ford 9″, 11″ drum brakes and 31 splines axles.

Currie Enterprises case with 3.55:1 final drive with “spool”.

Reinforced leaf springs and Calvert racing Caltrax Traction Bar + Anti-Roll Bar Kit, adjustable QA1 drag race shock absorbers.

Front tires/rims 16″ and rear 15″ rims Hoosier slicks.
