Ford Transit MK1 Twin Wheel
This is an early 1966 model, sold new here in Finland and originally used by the Military department. It would have been dark green when with the Military, this colour is still visible in some places.
The previous owner had owned it for quite some time, he converted it into a camper van. When I stripped out the inside from all the dated furnishings, I found a newspaper dated 1984, so been a camper van for several years.
It had been standing for a while when I purchased it and needed a good service, below is what was recently carried out.
- Full engine service.
- The carburetor cleaned.
- Brake fluid renewed.
- Gearbox and rear diff oils changed.
- New ignition barrel and keys, original one is still available but very temperamental.
- Fresh fuel.
I took some photos from underneath whilst it was up on the lift. It is rust free and in nice original condition, I couldn’t see any previous weld repairs.
The exterior is also nice for its age, straight and presentable. There are a few signs here and there of some previous repairs, but nothing mayor or alarming. Now that the panels have been removed inside, you can see the condition of the body and it all looks very good.
The inside is solid and original, with no signs of previous repairs.
I have removed the two small gas bottles from the outside rear, so these are no longer available.
The engine bay is in nice original condition and rust free. The 2.0l V4 runs well.
This van would make a great starting point for a camper conversion, or a classic race car service van.
