Mercedes-Benz 350 SLC 3.5 V8

Description

Mercedes-Benz 350 SLC 3.5 V8

Exceptional documentation • German delivery • Finnish museum vehicle • 128,658 km

Offered for sale is a 1973 Mercedes-Benz 350 SLC (C107), an exceptionally well-documented example of Mercedes-Benz’s elegant V8 grand touring coupé.

Finished in its attractive period bronze/gold colour with a beautifully preserved beige interior, the car combines excellent presentation with an unusually comprehensive historical file.

What makes this particular SLC especially interesting is the depth of its documentation. The car comes with original Mercedes-Benz literature, service documentation, historical registration paperwork, ownership history, period photographs and records covering its life from new.

From Germany in 1973

The car was first registered in Germany on 10 January 1973 according to the original documentation.

The original registration/service paperwork identifies:

  • Model: Mercedes-Benz 350 SLC
  • Chassis: 10702312 004985
  • Engine: 116 982 12 010477
  • First owner: Josef Sieger
  • Location: Bad Neuenahr, Germany
  • Original registration: AW-K 840

The car’s original Mercedes-Benz service documentation contains early service entries from 1973, including a service at approximately 1,183 km in March 1973. This is particularly valuable evidence of the car’s early life and maintenance.

There are also subsequent documented Mercedes-Benz service entries at progressively higher mileages, including records around 45,000 km, 52,000 km, 105,000 km and 112,500 km.

Documented ownership history

The accompanying historical file records the following ownership history:

1973 – Germany
First owner Josef Sieger of Bad Neuen-Ahrweiler.

1993 – Germany
Sold to Franz Peter Rosen of Bonn at just 66,564 km. The documentation states that Mr Rosen maintained and partly repaired the car and was a member of the German MB R/C 107 club.

1999 – Finland
Imported to Finland by Pekka Rajaniemi of Pieksämäki and registered IYE-990.

2001 – Finland
Purchased by Pekka and Laura Kenetti at approximately 111,000 km. The accompanying documentation from the previous ownership came with the car.

The records state that the car was kept in a heated garage, and that from 2004 onward it was essentially unused for several years, with the engine only started occasionally.

2006
The car was registered as a museum vehicle at approximately 120,500 km.

2011
Purchased at approximately 121,940 km, with subsequent inspections and maintenance documented.

Today the odometer shows approximately 128,658 km.

Extensive original documentation

The car comes with an unusually substantial documentation file, including:

  • Original Mercedes-Benz 350 SL / 350 SLC owner’s manual
  • Original Mercedes-Benz service booklet
  • Period German registration documentation
  • Early Mercedes-Benz dealer/service stamps
  • Service entries with recorded mileage
  • Workshop/service invoices and handwritten maintenance records
  • Historical photographs
  • Documentation of previous ownership
  • Documentation relating to the car’s importation to Finland
  • Museum-vehicle documentation
  • Recent professional paint-thickness inspection

The original Mercedes-Benz books are particularly appealing: these are not modern reproductions but period literature showing normal age-related wear consistent with their history.

Body and restoration history

The car’s bodywork has clearly received attention during its life. The historical photographs included with the car show the SLC during a body preparation and repainting process, with the body stripped/sanded and localised repairs carried out before refinishing.

This is worth stating openly because the recent professional paint-thickness inspection also identifies significant variation in paint thickness across several panels. For example, the left front door measured between 270 and 1,059 μm, while other panels also show evidence of additional paint layers/filler.

The complete paint inspection report, dated 29 September 2026, is included and can be shown to prospective buyers. It covers the exterior panels, structural/internal areas, engine compartment and boot.

This documentation makes the car particularly suitable for a buyer who values proven history and transparency rather than an artificially presented “untouched” story.

Interior

The beige interior is one of the car’s strongest visual features.

The original-style patterned cloth upholstery, matching door panels, rear bench and headrests have survived remarkably well. The dashboard, steering wheel, carpets and trim retain the unmistakable character of an early-1970s Mercedes-Benz.

The rear seat and headliner are especially well preserved.

Why this car deserves attention

There are plenty of old Mercedes-Benz cars for sale, but relatively few come with this combination of early German history, original period documentation, continuous mileage records, historical photographs, long-term enthusiast ownership and museum-vehicle status.

The service booklet provides evidence from the car’s first year, rather than beginning decades later. The historical file then follows the car through Germany and Finland.

It is also possible to see the car’s history rather than simply read about it: the file contains photographs from earlier ownership and photographs documenting later bodywork.

For a collector, this makes the car’s story almost as interesting as the car itself.
